Inspection of cracked glass

Background

We were contacted by the University of Northampton to provide access for a glass inspection due to cracks appearing in various places on the glass windows around a building on campus.

The challenges

Because of the nature of the cracking, we needed to inspect multiple locations around the building. A glass specialist needed access to both sides of the glass as well as an access platform for the outside. It had to have enough reach to access the top of the building if required.

The working area around the university was open to the public so creating a safe working area was also a top priority.

Our solution

Following a site survey, we decided that our 21m CTE 21.3JHL truck-mounted platform was the best option. It gave us the flexibility and access we needed while also allowing us to move around outside easily.

We created a safe area by using cones and barrier tape and also had the help of banks men from the University’s maintenance department to redirect the public around the area.

The glass specialist was able to easily reach and inspect the glass in a number of locations outside.
