Initial investigation work commenced last week to start assessing the damage to an adjoining building following the major fire on Thursday 19th May 2011 where an estimated 40 fire-fighters and police were called to Shepherd’s Scrap Yard in Byker Bank, Newcastle at 12.25pm after reports of thick smoke.
The smoke could be seen as far away as Wallsend, South Shields and Consett, as well as over Newcastle city centre and nearby residents and businesses were told by police to keep all windows and doors closed and stay inside as a precaution.
Portland Consulting were working alongside Jones Lang Lassalle who were the Project Managers for this work. They used Warren Access to hire a lorry mounted access platform with 13m outreach for the initial assessments to get underway.
