Seaton Delaval Hall is a Grade 1 listed country house in Northumberland and is located between Seaton Sluice and Seaton Delaval. It was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in 1718 for Admiral George Delaval and is now owned by the National Trust.
It is a great house steeped in history and is set in its own estate with lovely gardens. The house has survived terrible fires, military occupation and potential ruin. Now it provides an amazing space for arts, heritage and the community to come together.
When the National Trust became owners of the property, it was clear that there was significant structural and mortar repair works to be carried out, and a tender for the work was published. Team –Force was successful in the tender process and work commenced August 15th 2011.
With the complexity of the building and the varying ground conditions, there was concern about how all areas would be reached. Some areas were hard standing but others were soft ground with obstructions such as sloped areas and shrubs. The initial remit was to have one machine to cover all areas of the hall; however it soon became apparent that this would not be possible. It was hoped that at least 80% of the areas concerned would be accessible by an access platform.
After a detailed site survey of every side of the hall, Warren Access suggested a combination of machines to carry out the work. Any areas that could be reached from hard standing ground were done with either the 20m or 27m Multitel lorry mounted platforms. Any grassed and sloped areas around the side and back of the hall were done with our 18m Teupen Spiderlift.
Approximately 90% of the areas that needed to be accessed were successfully reached between all three of our machines.
“We were aware that it would be difficult to gain access to some areas of Seaton Delaval Hall and we approached several access companies in the North East for their advice and clarification on how we could access the necessary areas of the hall.We found Warren Access to be extremely helpful and we were impressed with their professionalism and attention to detail when working out a solution to combat the difficult access problems. We found everybody we have dealt with at Warren Access to be extremely approachable and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to anyone and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
